Effective date: the date of the app's first public release Last updated: October 7, 2026
These terms are between you and Jesse Dean, an independent developer in Denver, Colorado ("we", "us"), and cover your use of the Drift iOS app and the account service behind it. By using Drift you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Drift is a fly fishing journal. It records what you tell it, shows public river and weather data, and uses AI services to write briefs, rank waters and compile journal drafts from your own notes.
River flows, lake levels, weather, snowpack, hatch calendars, daily intel and river briefs are assembled from public sources and AI models. They can be wrong, late, or missing. Gauges fail, provisional readings get revised, and a language model can state something confidently that is not true. Do not rely on Drift to judge whether water is safe to wade, float or cross. Check conditions yourself, respect posted closures and regulations, and use your own judgment on the water. You fish at your own risk.
Fishing regulations shown in the app are summaries and may be out of date. The state wildlife agency's current regulations control.
Everything you log is yours: trips, catches, pins, notes, photos, voice transcripts and journal entries. You keep all rights to it. You grant us only the limited license needed to store it, back it up to your account, send the relevant parts to the AI and transcription services described in the Privacy Policy, and show it back to you. We do not share it with other users and we do not use it to train models.
You are responsible for what you log. Do not upload content you do not have the right to use, and do not use Drift to record other people without their consent where consent is required.
You can use Drift without an account. If you create one, keep your sign-in method secure and tell us if you think it has been compromised. You can delete your account at any time from Settings; deletion removes your cloud backup and cannot be undone. Data on your phone remains yours and stays there until you delete the app.
Do not attempt to access other users' data, reverse engineer the service, overload our servers, or use Drift for anything unlawful. Do not use the map or location features to publish or sell access to specific fishing spots on private or restricted water.
Drift is built and run by one person. We aim to keep it working but do not promise uninterrupted service, and we may change or discontinue features. If we ever shut the service down, we will give notice in the app and you will be able to export your data first.
The core of Drift is free: trips, catches, pins, notes, photos, on-device voice transcription and live conditions. Some AI features are limited on the free plan and unlimited on the paid plan, which also includes the daily ranking of your waters and the river briefs. The paid plan is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple and does not require a Drift account; it is tied to your Apple ID. The price, the renewal period and what the plan includes are shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation, the subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you manage or cancel it in your Apple ID settings. Apple's terms govern purchases, refunds and cancellation; we cannot issue refunds ourselves. If we change the limits of the free plan we will say so in the app.
Drift is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any injury, loss or damage arising from your use of the app or from reliance on any information in it, including conditions data and AI-generated content. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app with a new effective date. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to conflict of law rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Denver, Colorado.
